Community for Home Educating Families

Learn Laugh Play is a UK-based learning platform and community designed to support home-educating families through both structured learning and meaningful connection.

Alongside classes, one of the most important parts of home education is community — for both children and parents. This page explains why community matters, and how Learn Laugh Play supports families in building connection, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Why Community Matters in Home Education

Home education offers flexibility and the opportunity to tailor learning to each child. However, it can sometimes feel isolating, particularly in the early stages or during periods of change.

Many families look for ways to ensure that their children can:

– build friendships
– feel part of a group
– develop confidence in social situations
– share experiences with others

Through our experience supporting home-educating families, we consistently see that when children feel part of a community, learning becomes more enjoyable and more meaningful.

For parents, community can also provide reassurance, shared understanding, and a sense of support.

How Learn Laugh Play Supports Community

Learn Laugh Play is designed to offer more than individual lessons. It provides a connected learning experience where children and families can feel part of something ongoing.

This includes opportunities for both structured interaction and more informal social connection, allowing families to find what works best for them.

Community Membership

Learn Laugh Play offers an optional annual community membership, designed to give families additional opportunities to connect and take part in shared experiences throughout the year.

Membership includes access to:

– mini courses and additional learning experiences
– extra community activities for members
– a buy, sell and swap Facebook group for families
– opportunities to feel part of the wider LLP community over time

For many families, community membership adds an extra layer of connection alongside classes and clubs.

Parties and Celebrations

Learn Laugh Play also offers special events and celebrations that are open to all home educating children, not only members.

These include:

– end-of-term parties
– Halloween parties
– World Book Day celebrations
– other themed events across the year

Monthly Learning Competitions

Monthly learning competitions are also open more widely and give children of all ages the opportunity to join in.

These competitions are designed to make learning feel fun, shared, and motivating. They also give children the chance to:

– take part in something together
– share their ideas and creativity
– feel recognised and encouraged

Social Clubs and Shared Activities

In addition to structured classes, Learn Laugh Play offers a range of opportunities designed specifically for social interaction.

These include:

– games clubs
– book clubs
– themed social groups
– feel-good clubs focused on connection and wellbeing

These sessions allow children to connect in a more relaxed environment, helping to build friendships and confidence in a way that feels natural and enjoyable.

We also offer a games club for home-educating parents, recognising that connection and community are important for the whole family.

Supporting New Families

Starting home education can feel like a significant change, and many families appreciate guidance and reassurance in the early stages.

Learn Laugh Play offers a free onboarding meeting for new parents, providing an opportunity to ask questions, understand how things work, and feel more confident in getting started.

This helps families feel supported from the beginning and provides a gentle introduction to the community.

Weekly Connection and Routine

Regular connection can make a significant difference to how children experience learning.

Within Learn Laugh Play, opportunities such as Monday Morning Motivate and weekly clubs help provide a sense of routine and familiarity, allowing children to begin the week feeling connected and ready to learn.

These consistent touchpoints can help children feel part of something ongoing, rather than attending isolated sessions.

Lollipop the Travelling Bear

Lollipop is a much-loved part of the Learn Laugh Play community and brings a very real sense of shared experience to families.

She travels to community members with her diary and a map of the UK. Children can add their location to Lollipop’s map with a sticky dot and write in her diary about their time with her.

She often returns from her travels with stories, photos, and sometimes even handmade gifts, such as bracelets.

Lollipop helps children feel connected to a wider community of home-educating families across the UK in a way that is personal, memorable, and full of warmth.

A Community That Grows Over Time

For many families, one of the most valuable aspects of community is continuity.

As children attend classes and take part in activities over time, they begin to recognise familiar faces, build relationships, and feel more comfortable within the environment.

This sense of familiarity can support both confidence and engagement, particularly for children who may need time to feel settled.

Summary

Learn Laugh Play provides a community for home-educating families that sits alongside its learning offer.

By combining classes, clubs, shared experiences, celebrations, competitions, and opportunities for connection, it supports children in building confidence, forming friendships, and enjoying their learning as part of a wider community.

For parents, it offers reassurance, support, and the opportunity to connect with others on a similar journey.
