Learn Laugh Play

Learn Laugh Play is a UK-based online learning platform and community for home-educating families, providing live online classes, recorded learning, and community-based support.

Alongside structured learning, an important part of home education is the experience children have as they learn. This includes how they feel in a lesson, how they connect with others, and how their confidence and identity as a learner develop over time.

Through our work with home-educating families, we see that learning is not only about content, but about the environment in which that learning takes place. This page explores what learning looks like in practice at Learn Laugh Play, through real examples, lesson experiences, and community stories.

What Learning Looks Like at Learn Laugh Play

Learning at Learn Laugh Play combines structured learning through live classes or recordings of classes, with a strong emphasis on flexibility and community.

Children take part in live online classes (with recordings included in each class membership), where they can engage with their teacher and classmates in a safe and supportive environment. Lessons are designed to be interactive, inclusive, and suitable for a wide range of learners.

Beyond the lesson itself, children can continue their learning through:

– optional activities which the teacher provides at the end of each lesson
– Independent learning opportunities such as our monthly learning competitions
– opportunities to connect with others.

This helps create continuity between sessions and supports a more joined-up learning experience.

As a provider of structured and flexible learning for home-educating families, Learn Laugh Play supports children not only in developing knowledge, but also in building confidence, curiosity, and a positive relationship with learning.

Why Community Matters in Online Learning

For many home-educating families, flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of online learning. The ability to try different classes, explore new interests, and adapt learning to suit the child is incredibly valuable.

At the same time, one of the things we consistently see through our work with home-educating families is the difference that a sense of community can make to a child’s learning experience.

When children feel that they are part of a group, rather than simply attending individual sessions, learning often becomes more enjoyable and more meaningful. Over time, children begin to feel more comfortable, more confident, and more willing to participate.

This is why we encourage families, where possible, to remain within a class while their child is enjoying it. Continuity allows children to build relationships with their teacher and their peers, and it allows teachers to get to know each child as a learner and provide more personalised support.

While it is natural to explore different options, and flexibility will always remain an important part of home education, many families find that a balance between flexibility and continuity leads to a more positive and connected learning experience.

Many of our classes are designed to support this continuity, allowing children to learn alongside familiar peers and teachers over time.

Inside an LLP Lesson

Each Learn Laugh Play lesson is designed to provide a balance of structure, engagement, and flexibility.

Lessons typically include clear explanations, opportunities for interaction, and activities that encourage children to think, create, and explore. Teachers adapt their approach to suit different learners, helping children feel comfortable participating at their own pace.

Children are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and take part in discussions, helping to build both understanding and confidence.

In many cases, children continue to develop relationships with both their teacher and their classmates over time, creating a familiar and supportive learning environment.

Every lesson and teacher is different but it is common to see children volunteering to share their learning through speaking (but we never expect anyone to do this without volunteering:

– answering a poll within the lesson
– typing answers or sharing ideas in the chat
– annotating on the screen
– sharing ideas by holding up their whiteboard (younger groups)

Learning Through Community and Shared Experiences

In addition to lessons, children have opportunities to take part in shared learning experiences.

These may include:
– social clubs and games clubs
– themed activities and events
– monthly learning competitions
end-of-term celebrations

These experiences help children feel part of a wider community and allow them to connect with others who share similar interests.

For many children, these shared experiences play an important role in making learning feel enjoyable and meaningful.

Supporting Confidence and Connection

One of the key outcomes we see in home-educated children is growing confidence.

This often develops gradually, as children become more familiar with their learning environment, their teacher, and their peers.

For some children, particularly those who may have found school challenging, this sense of safety and familiarity can make a significant difference.

Children may begin by observing, then gradually take part more actively as their confidence grows. Over time, many children become more willing to contribute, share ideas, and engage with learning.

Learning Experiences and Stories

Every child’s learning journey is different.

Within Learn Laugh Play, families often share experiences of:

– children developing confidence over time
– children building friendships within classes and communities
– children rediscovering enjoyment in learning
– families finding a balance that works for them

These experiences reflect the variety of ways in which home education can be shaped to suit the needs of each child.

Summary

Learn Laugh Play provides more than individual lessons. It offers a connected learning experience for home-educating families, combining structured teaching, flexibility, and community.

By supporting both learning and connection, it helps children develop confidence, build relationships, and enjoy their learning in a way that feels both meaningful and sustainable.
