For this iGCSE Edexcel Literature course you will need to sit two papers.

For Paper 1 you will be examined on the Edexcel Anthology, unseen poetry and a prose (John Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice and Men).

For Paper 2 you will be examined on a prose (JB Priestley’s ‘An Inspector Calls’) and Shakespeare (Macbeth).

Paper 1 Mon 9am

In this IGCSE Paper 1 English literature class you will investigate how poetry can be  used to tell stories, evoke emotions and capture history working  through the iGCSE Edexcel Anthology of poems.

We will also read John Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice and Men’, a story of the great depression in 1930s America and how two men, George and Lennie, try to overcome prejudice, isolation and loneliness to achieve their dreams.

Paper 2 Wed 9am

In this iGCSE Paper 2 English literature class you will journey back to Jacobean England to investigate why Shakespeare wrote a play about regicide, murder and manipulation to please his King, James I.

You will also travel to pre-war England with  JB Priestley’s play ‘An Inspector Calls’. It’s 1912 and a wealthy family are celebrating an engagement; their fun is interrupted by an inspector who is investigating how they each are responsible for the death of a young woman. This story tells of how our actions have consequences and how fiction can often represent reality.

You can choose to either sign up to both papers and do the complete course within a full year or you can sign up for one and when completed a full year sign up to the other paper. This will then take you 2 years to complete the course.

 

Unlike all our other courses, the price for IGCSE is £5.00 +VAT a week per student to reflect the amount of work the teacher will need to do to successfully guide you through your GCSE. All marking and feedback is included in the price. You will be expected to do 1 – 2 hours of independent work each week.

Follow the Edexcel IGCSE English Literature course in this class which is suitable for students aged 14-16. In these weekly sessions, we will read and discuss a selection of short stories, poems, and a play. You will learn how to understand literature, as well as how to write about it. It is an advantage if you are a fluent reader. Each week we will explore specific themes before breaking off into small groups to discuss and debate what we have read. Reading aloud will always be optional, so you do not have to do so if you don’t want to. You will need to read the required chapters before each session, so you have plenty of ideas to share!

Due to some of its themes and content of this course, the age for this class is 14 – 16. If your child is younger than 14 but you would like them to study this course, please make sure that you are aware of the content and either watch the recordings before your child watches them or watch the lessons with your child to ensure that you are happy with the content and can talk it through with your child.

Although we cover the curriculum in the period stated, it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that your child has covered and understood the entire syllabus, kept appropriate notes and has carried out exam practice before they sit their exam. Our teacher will give short exam practice throughout the course and teach the children how to answer the questions, but it is a good idea for your child to sit practice exam papers in the run-up to their actual exam. Our teachers are always happy to help and advise but please make sure you know what your child has studied and areas that need more work before they are ready to sit the exam. Generally speaking, our recommendation is to start around April /May for May/June exams two years later or September / October for November exams two years later. Please note:

If a class with exactly the same name is on more than once a week it is a repeat lesson with the same content. As places are limited and so you don’t have duplicate lessons please only sign up for the one class per week. This will leave spaces for other customers and stop any additional cost to yourself as we will be unable to give a refund.

On occasions we may have to change the day or time of a course or on rare occasions the course is cancelled. This maybe due to a teacher leaving or low numbers. We do try to do this only when absolutely necessary and will always give advance warning and try to offer an alternative for you.

Standard classes are £3 and numbers are limited to 40. Smaller classes (e.g. GCSE) are £6 are per student and classes are kept smaller at 25 maximum. If there is more than 1 child joining a £6 class you need to make sure you have added the correct amount to your basket. We reserve the right to ask for back payments if this does not happen.

For safeguarding purposes, every Zoom lesson includes a brief visual registration at the beginning which requires children to have their webcam switched on and their correct name (the one used on their LLP child profile) displayed on Zoom. If your child would like to join lessons but is anxious about this or needs to have their face covered during lessons for religious or any other reason please get in touch, and we can arrange a password for them to use instead.

We are now offering some courses as pre recorded lessons in topic blocks on llpextralearningspace.co.uk This then allows you to buy previous lessons in topic packs either for revision purposes or to do a topic yourselves. We recognise that this will have some issues for those that do not wish to be on camera so the new format of the class is that the visual register and any informal discussions happen before and after the lesson itself is recorded. The teachers will all have their settings set to speaker view so that the thumbnail of whoever is speaking will only be highlighted when or if they speak. If you do not want your child to appear in the recording it is your responsibility to ensure the camera is switched off after the visual register unless they have an agreed password then it can remain switched off at all times.
