Many home-educating families opt for Functional Skills as an alternative to GCSE exams as the content of the curriculum and the exam is better suited to the child. Please note that although your child can sit the exam from home, this needs to be booked in with an approved centre. A pass in Level 2 Functional Skills is equivalent to a Grade 4/pass grade in GCSE. However, it’s important to check if Functional Skills Level 2 will be accepted for entry in place of a GCSE by any Higher Education course provider you intend to use as this can vary.
The price for Functional Skills Level 2 is the same as for our GCSE classes (£5.00 +VAT (£6 total) a week per student) All marking and feedback are included in the price. Your child will be expected to do up to 1 – 2 hours of independent work each week. There is a maximum of 25 students on each course (which will be made up of those who wish to attend the classes live and those who prefer to follow the recording in their own time).
Each of our Functional Skills courses will run for one year, but your child can take the exam at several different points throughout the year whenever they are ready. Your child can join at any time, as with our other courses we run a rolling curriculum. You can find out more about Functional Skills Qualifications HERE. Please read our guide to taking qualifications with LLP to understand more about how to access exams for Functional Skills.

Please note:
If a class with exactly the same name is on more than once a week it is a repeat lesson with the same content. As places are limited and so you don’t have duplicate lessons please only sign up for the one class per week. This will leave spaces for other customers and stop any additional cost to yourself as we will be unable to give a refund.
On occasions we may have to change the day or time of a course or on rare occasions the course is cancelled. This maybe due to a teacher leaving or low numbers. We do try to do this only when absolutely necessary and will always give advance warning and try to offer an alternative for you.
Standard classes are £3 and numbers are limited to 40. Smaller classes (e.g. GCSE) are £6 are per student and classes are kept smaller at 25 maximum. If there is more than 1 child joining a £6 class you need to make sure you have added the correct amount to your basket. We reserve the right to ask for back payments if this does not happen.
For safeguarding purposes, every Zoom lesson includes a brief visual registration at the beginning which requires children to have their webcam switched on and their correct name (the one used on their LLP child profile) displayed on Zoom. If your child would like to join lessons but is anxious about this or needs to have their face covered during lessons for religious or any other reason please get in touch, and we can arrange a password for them to use instead.
We are now offering some courses as pre recorded lessons in topic blocks on llpextralearningspace.co.uk This then allows you to buy previous lessons in topic packs either for revision purposes or to do a topic yourselves. We recognise that this will have some issues for those that do not wish to be on camera so the new format of the class is that the visual register and any informal discussions happen before and after the lesson itself is recorded. The teachers will all have their settings set to speaker view so that the thumbnail of whoever is speaking will only be highlighted when or if they speak. If you do not want your child to appear in the recording it is your responsibility to ensure the camera is switched off after the visual register unless they have an agreed password then it can remain switched off at all times.
