New AQA French GCSE Speaking Class
Did you know that the new AQA GCSE French speaking exam is only 10 minutes long, and yet it counts for 25% of your overall mark? Or that the speaking exam includes 3 very specific tasks which are marked according to six different marking criteria?
At LLP, we believe it’s essential for students to have a clear understanding of each of those 3 exam tasks, as well as the highly prescriptive mark schemes. We want to support our students by offering a new weekly speaking class which will focus entirely on preparing for the AQA GCSE French speaking exam. In this new class, your child will:

ï‚· become familiar with the very particular marking criteria for each of the 3
tasks
ï‚· practise speaking exam tasks each week
ï‚· improve their accent and intonation
ï‚· build up confidence and fluency
ï‚· revise and consolidate vocabulary from the various GCSE topics
ï‚· have fun, whilst being gently guided by former Head of Dept with 30
years’ teaching experience

We look forward to welcoming your child into this new and exciting class!
AQA Paper 2: Speaking
The Speaking exam is worth 25% of your overall marks for the GCSE.
Your exam will last between 7-9 minutes (F) or 10-12 minutes (H)
There are 3 parts to the exam:
• Role Play (10 marks )
• Read aloud (15 marks)
• Discussion of Photo Card and unprepared conversation (25 marks)

Before your exam you are given 15 minutes to prepare and make notes for the role play and photo card. YOU CAN BRING THESE NOTES INTO THE EXAM AND READ THEM FROM THE PAPER. You will also see your read aloud text but will not be allowed to practise this out loud. There is no restriction on the number of words or the material (eg conjugated verbs) which the notes may contain.
In order to prepare for your exam:
Practise as many example roleplay and photocard questions as you can
Practise your pronunciation by reading aloud A LOT!!!
Prepare model answers to the questions using this booklet.
Practice your answers. Don’t just read them in your head. Say them out loud to your teacher, to your friends, to yourself!
Learn the top level WOW phrases and make sure you get them in somewhere.
Do not simply revise the night before. It just won’t happen!
Practise using the 15 minute preparation time properly.

Please note:

  • If a class with exactly the same name is on more than once a week it is a repeat lesson with the same content. As places are limited and so you don’t have duplicate lessons please only sign up for the one class per week. This will leave spaces for other customers and stop any additional cost to yourself as we will be unable to give a refund.
  • On occasions we may have to change the day or time of a course or on rare occasions the course is cancelled. This maybe due to a teacher leaving or low numbers. We do try to do this only when absolutely necessary and will always give advance warning and try to offer an alternative for you.
  • Standard classes are £3 and numbers are limited to 40. Smaller classes (e.g, GCSE) are £6 are per student and classes are kept smaller at 25 maximum. If there is more than 1 child joining a £6 class you need to make sure you have added the correct amount to your basket. We reserve the right to ask for back payments if this does not happen.
  • For safeguarding purposes, every Zoom lesson includes a brief visual registration at the beginning which requires children to have their webcam switched on and their correct name (the one used on their LLP child profile) displayed on Zoom. If your child would like to join lessons but is anxious about this or needs to have their face covered during lessons for religious or any other reason please get in touch, and we can arrange a password for them to use instead.
  • We are now offering some courses as pre recorded lessons in topic blocks on llpextralearningspace.co.uk This then allows you to buy previous lessons in topic packs either for revision purposes or to do a topic yourselves. We recognise that this will have some issues for those that do not wish to be on camera so the new format of the class is that the visual register and any informal discussions happen before and after the lesson itself is recorded. The teachers will all have their settings set to speaker view so that the thumbnail of whoever is speaking will only be highlighted when or if they speak. If you do not want your child to appear in the recording it is your responsibility to ensure the camera is switched off after the visual register unless they have an agreed password then it can remain switched off at all times.
