👋 ¡Bienvenidos! Welcome to Speaking Spanish Club! (13–16 yrs)
Â
This class will be increasing to ÂŁ6 from January as it will be taught as a GCSE speaking class and so we wanted to keep the class smaller. This will support the speaking and listening element of the exam and be suitable for anyone studying GCSE Spanish or Intermediate Spanish with us,
We’re so excited to have you here!
This class is all about building your confidence and fluency in spoken Spanish — whether you’re preparing for GCSE, planning a holiday, or just love the sound of a new language.
Each session will focus on practical conversation skills, from introducing yourself and chatting about your family, to navigating real-life situations like shopping, travelling, and ordering food. You’ll also get to practise describing scenes — a key part of the GCSE speaking exam.
Get ready to grow your skills, step out of your comfort zone, and have some fun along the way. ¡Vamos!
There is no set plan for this group as things can change things from week to week dependent on the needs and interests of the group.
We will cover a mixture of the following material:
conversation topics (the kind of things you would include if you were speaking to a Spanish person you’ve just met) such as details about you and your family, your hobbies, and where you live.
transactional language (the kind of language you might need if you were shopping in Spain, or buying transport tickets, or arranging a visit somewhere) such as buying clothes and food, asking for directions, describing medical problems to a doctor, booking a hotel, and ordering food.
GCSE speaking exam practice (the speaking exam counts for 25% of the overall GCSE mark and is examined in a very prescriptive way, comprising a role-play, describing 2 photographs, and a conversation). We will look at sample speaking exam questions together with the mark scheme and teach students how to give the best performance they can in the exam.”
Materials:
You do not need to buy a textbook, as all materials will be provided on the website.
Please check the entries under “materials” for each lesson, as that’s where I’ll post Class Documents (sheets that, ideally, need to be printed out before that specific lesson) and Optional Tasks (additional, optional tasks for those children who to wish to practise what they’ve learnt after the lesson).
It’s always helpful to have pen and paper ready in case you need / want to write something down during the lesson.
Please note – For safeguarding purposes, each Zoom lesson includes a brief registration at the beginning which requires children to have their webcam switched on. If your child would like to join lessons but is anxious about this or needs to have their face covered during lessons for religious or any other reason please get in touch, and we can arrange an alternate method of registration for them.
