Welcome to your STEAM club!
Hi, I am Holly, your STEAM club leader, and I am so excited to welcome you into our sessions. As an educator of over 20 years, from Early Years through primary, as well as a home educator myself, I am so keen to bring some knowledge and skills development to you that is built upon promoting awe and wonder and of course… lots of hands on making and doing!
Here we are budding scientists, engineers, designers and problem solvers, ready to face a range of challenges in a hands on way. We cover a blend of science, technology, engineering, art and maths in our sessions. Each week we will use a range of materials and our own brilliant minds to design, make and improve products from wind turbines, flood proof houses and solar powered ovens, to pop up gift cards, robotic hands and sun catchers. We will dive into a range of topics each term, but don’t worry about when you join us as each lesson stands alone.
Our STEAM club sessions follow the same welcoming structure as all our LLP sessions, with a quick visual register (or password sharing if you prefer to keep the camera off). Our members are welcome to keep their cameras off if they prefer to do so, and engagement can be through the chat option. Our members are encouraged to contribute as much as they feel comfortable to do so, and using the hands up function in the session gives everyone a chance to share if they wish to do so. There are also optional additional tasks to be completed between sessions, and if these are completed we would love to see anything shared in our Gallery of Achievement!
In advance of each session, the materials needed are made available and will mostly use items that can be found in your recycling bin at home. Occasionally we will need things like clay, plasticine, dowels, pins, string, straws etc, but these will be communicated with you before the session with plenty of notice.
I look forward to seeing you in our STEAM club!
